Can we just talk about this for a sec? This isn’t the first time Severus has encountered Moony. We know James saved Severus from Moony on their fifth year and we know for a fact that, for all his snark and sarcasm, Severus is terrified of Moony. Think about this scene then. Severus is afraid, we can see that in his face as he realizes Remus transformed without the potion and is now out of control, but instead of moving or cowering, he moves to cover them, effectively shielding all three of them with his body and putting himself between his biggest fear and the children he supposedly hates. He could have been turned or killed and he knew that yet he still protected them.

Now, tell me Severus Snape isn’t the bravest fucking man you ever knew.
